Z Syndicate

The Z Syndicate (ZX Syndicate in Japan) is a criminal organization in Custom Robo (GameCube), serving as one of the primary antagonists of the game. Though knowledge about them is scarce and their motives are unknown to the public, what is established is that their affairs are centered around the use of Custom Robo.

Background

After discovering the truth of Rahu (character) and Outside World the founding leader of Z sought a way to prevent the return of Rahu. However as time went on the leader eventually decided that the best course of action would be stopping Rahu without the public ever knowing. This course of action led to him seeking out the strongest commanders he could find who also aligned with his vision. However, as time went on, the greedy natures of Oboro, Eliza, and Isabella slowly surfaced, revealing a desire to control Rahu rather than defeat it. Recognizing their wavering allegiances the leader passes on his final wishes to Sergei in an attempt to fulfill the original purpose of The Z Syndicate. After his passing, the organization was splintered into 2 factions under the leadership of Oboro and Eliza. Though equal in power, both individuals sought total control over the entire organization. Seeing Rahu as the definitive way to tip the power dispute in the favor both make a grab for Rahu to assert their influence on the entire world.

The Grand Battle

The Z Syndicate is first mentioned again by Lucy during the introduction to the The Grand Battle. Along with the defeat of Rahu, and the reveal of Outside World, the defeat of Z is also announced (without specifics of the event revealed to the general public). After the conclusion of the Police Squad 2-on-2 Battle Tournament. The Chief explains that all members (except for Sergei) brought into custody had their memories erased as part of a new rehabilitation strategy. Linda remarks that under surveillance all members have been displaying positive results to the procedure. The remnants of Z are finally encountered once again during the tournaments featured in The Outside World. As part of the rehabilitation they are now led to believe that they are merely actors portraying the roles of the original members. Each high ranking official is given the role of host to their own individual tournament. In addition to participating in the battles at times, Sergei (under the guise of also being an actor) is also tasked with performing surveillance on remaining members

Trivia

• Z's Founder is the only individual to lack an in game portrait.
• Though the meaning of what the Z stands for is unknown many citizens try to decipher it's meaning throughout the story. During "A New Journey" various NPC's can be seen turning it into a guessing game
• Among the words proposed for what the Z represents are "Zelda" and "Zebes". These are references to other Nintendo Franchises.
  • "Zelda" refers to the character "Princess Zelda" from the Legend of Zelda franchise.
  • "Zebes" alludes to "Planet Zebes," Samus Aran's home planet from the Metroid franchise.
• Oboro's Faction consists of only male members while Eliza's Faction consists both male and female members. However, the high members of Eliza's faction are only female (Eliza and Isabella).
• Going along with Oboro's theme of traditional war customs, his henchmen are seen in standard attire for warriors.
• Throughout the entire franchise the Z Syndicate is one of the only two antagonizing organizations that started out good and later turned evil. The only other group to share this distinction is the Nikaido Group.
